Funeral service for Mrs. Carrie Lee Talbert Whatley was held at 10 a.m. today, Oct. 4, 1948 in the Hixson Bros. Chapel with Rev. D. D. Simpson of Port Arthur, and Rev. O. M. Corley of Colfax officiating. Interment was in the Newell cemetary near Buckeye. Pallbearers were Tellis Tyler, Burdette Aycock, Murphy James, Bill Lard, Bill Whatley, and Morris Whatley. Mrs. Whatley, 73, of Route 3, Alexandria, died at 12:10 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 3, 1948 in the Baptist Hospital.
She is survived by five sons, Charles, Morris, Leon, Bill and Jack; seven daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Jenkins, Mrs. W. M. James, Mrs. B. B. Aycock, Miss Beatrice Whatley, Mrs. M. Cowart, Mrs. O. A. Cruse, and Mrs. Baxter Lard; two brothers, Louis Talbert and Wallace Talbert; 25 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service for Homer Whatley was held Friday, July 25, 1947 at 3 p. m. in the Vandenburg cemetary, Bayou Chicot, with Rev. Pershing Pitre officiating. Interment was in the Vandenburg cemetary under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Bunkie, La. Pallbearers were Morris M. Miller, Jr., Homer W. Miller, Shelby Johnson, Orice Pridgett, Wilbur Helmer, and Herbert LeBlanc. Mr. Whatley, 67, died Thursday, July 24, 1947 at 12 p. m. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Ferguson Whatley; three daughters, Mrs. Charlie Whatley of Bayou Chicot, Mrs. Morris M. Miller, Sr., of Opelousas, and Mrs. Telles Tyler, of Pineville, and one son, Clinton Whatley of Monroe.

Interment took place in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens A native of Bunkie, Mr. Spears was the son of the former Ivy Elizabeth Walker and the late A.G. Spears. He was a football coach in Belle Chasse and Dallas, Texas, and the athletic director at North Vermilion Catholic in Abbeville.
