SUMMARY OF GROUP-9
The 25/25 DNA marker match of Kits 753 and 4804 indicates a close relationship between William H. Walker of TN and Thomas Walker of Northumberland Co. VA. Additional research is needed to determine how they are related. Jesse Walker, (represented by Kit 1289) was believed to be a direct descendant of Thomas Walker (1st), and that research is supported by the 24/25 DNA marker match of Kit 1289 with Kits 753 & 4804.
Thomas Walker (1st) was transported from Derbyshire, England, in 1649 by Captain Ralph Wormeley and settled in Northumberland Co. VA. His known children were Thomas (2nd), Richard, William, Hannah m a Colclough, and (female) m a Chapman/Chatman. Edward Walker, ship master, settled on the adjoining plantation of Thomas Walker, and bought Thomas' plantation from Thomas' widow Elizabeth in 1657. Edward may be related to Thomas, perhaps brother.
Edward was the son of Sir Edward Walker b ca 1585 of Stoway, Roobers Parish of Nether, Somerset, England, & Barbara Salkell. Descendants of Sir Edward were not found; more recent records in England of this family are not extant. William Walker of that family migrated to the States and founded the Walker Cut Stone Co., Inc., but no male descendant of William has been found.
Future participants in the DNA testing from the following Walker families could reveal a relationship to the Thomas Walker line: Rev. William Walker (m Ursula Williams); descendants of the brothers, Lt. Col. John Walker & Lt. Col. Thomas Walker; George Walker b ca 1616 Kikatan, Scotland (James River Pilot); William Walker founder of the Walker Cut Stone Co.; brothers Rev. Sanders or Jeremiah Walker of NC and GA.
Kit 6218 is a genetic distance of 3 from Kit 753 and Kit 4804 and a genetic distance of 4 from Kit 1289 even though it appears to have more mismatches. Please see note below and if you have further questions, please contact Suzanne at FaberCove@aol.com.
NOTE: The reporting of genetic distance for Markers 464a-d is unique. Previously, when comparing the results for these Markers, each result that did not match was considered a mismatch. With new guides lines from FTDNA's scientific board, the genetic distance calculation for Markers 464a-d has been revised. When a mismatch occurs, it must be taken into consideration whether the number of apparent mismatches are a result of the order of presentation of the Markers. The order of the results for these Markers may make it appear as if there are more mismatches than are actually present.
On the surface, it may look like there are more mismatches, but this illusion is caused by the results being reordered, and there are less mismatches. DYS 464a-d is a highly polymorphic marker, in fact it appears to be the fastest moving marker in our entire test. (Polymorphic means rapidly changing!)
When comparing two individuals' results, if it appears that there is more than 1 mismatch for Markers 464a-d, we check the genetic distance report (available to surname project administrators) to verify the number of mismatches following guidelines by the Lab for Molecular Science and Evolution at the University of Arizona.
